Our stall in the Science Arena, all set up and waiting for the gates to open to the public.
As well as the first heat wave of the year, this weekend saw the first of this year’s Live from Jodrell Bank shows. Australian Pink Floyd headlined Transmission 4 on Saturday, followed by New Order headlining Transmission 5 on Sunday.
The Live from Jodrell Bank series of shows launched in 2011. They bring together music and science at Jodrell Bank Observatory. During the day there are a variety of science activities running alongside live bands and djs. The music continues into the evening, with images being projected onto the Lovell telescope once it goes dark. There were giant inflatable kangaroos, giant glitter balls and lasers coming out of the middle of the telescope – amazing!
We had a stall in the Science Arena on both Saturday and Sunday, with a variety of activities for visitors including meteorites, an erupting volcano and an opportunity to design your own rover mission to explore a planet. We were very busy both days, although on Sunday afternoon we had to fight with a certain Mr Murray for attention! We will post the results of the cratering experiment and the details of the best rovers shortly…

There were numerous other stalls in the Science Arena. I made some glow in the dark goo with chemists from Manchester University and had my photo taken (with said goo!) in a full size replica of part of the Large Hadron Collider and had my nose tested to see what sound it makes! Science Grrl, STFC, and the Square Kilometre Array were among the other stall.
